Inspired by the book: The ONE Thing by Gary W. Keller and Jay Papasan.
Most people believe that in order to be successful you have to succeed at multiple things simultaneously.
This couldn’t be further from the truth…
In fact, choosing to focus on just ONE thing at a time is a major key to long term success.
This can be applied practically in your day to day life. How many times have you made a huge to-do list of 20 items (small and large) and thought “I’ll start on the small items to get myself warmed up, then take care of the big stuff”
So you answer emails, respond to texts, clean your apartment, run errands, and make it to the end of the day just realize, you haven’t made any progress on that new article or piece of work you wanted to write, or that new project you were supposed to be part way through already.
You see, the problem with making a huge to-do list is it clouds your judgment from the most important tasks/things that will propel you and your business forward.
Don’t get me wrong, ticking off small tasks makes you feel good, it releases endorphins as you think you are being productive. Sadly, this isn’t going to move the needle over the long-term, so make the choice do you want the instant gratification each day OR, the long term gratification of reaching your dreams and goals!
Make a critical task list (like I’ve talked about before, scroll down to find that list) then identify the most time consuming, daunting task you have on your list, but the one that will also be the most rewarding when finished…
You have now identified your ONE thing for the day then crush it. Once it’s done, feel free to move onto the small tasks as well!
P.S. This also works on a larger scale when identifying weekly tasks, monthly goals, yearly achievements, etc
